GMC has small jubilee this year, when it comes to their model Canyon. As successor of GMC Sonoma, this compact pickup has been presented exactly ten years ago. In connection to that, manufacturer was redesigned this model for 2014 year, and 2016 GMC Canyon will just continue upgrades on the existing innovation.

New concept has just presented this year. Refreshment and redesign bring a lot of new details. Marked as heavy duty vehicle, this model has satisfactory performance. 2016 GMC Canyon will keep the same, recognizable exterior look. New version will bring two new available trims, named with GMC Denali and Work Truck. The first one is related to the standard model, while model with bigger towing capacity and other greater output performances will be marked as Work Truck trim.

Beside these two basic version, for the US car market will be prepared and some of special versions. One of these is all-terrain adventure, classified as extreme off-road model. There are and SLT chrome version, as well as one of the private version, marked as midnight edition.

Optional features that will depend on the trim level include active aero grille shutters, OnStar 4G LTE connectivity by Wi-Fi on dashboard, safety systems such as forward collision, lane departure and Teen Driver feature. This feature limits volume of sound and speed.

As for the US car market, 2016 GMC Canyon will offer line-up of engine which includes two petrol and one diesel unit. Basic model will be run by 2.5-litre Ecotec product with inline-4 cylinder. This engine characterizes maximum output of 193 hp, as well as 184 pounds of torque. The second engine which will be placed under the hood of new Canyon is a 3.6L LFX V6 engine. This engine is capable to deliver up to 305 hp and 270 pounds of torque. Both engines will be paired to the same, proven gearboxes with 6 speeds in either automatic or manual mode.

2016 GMC Canyon Diesel will be run by Duramax 2.8-litre product. This turbo-diesel inline-4 unit will characterize maximum production of 200 horsepower and 325 pounds of torque. This engine will be paired to the same gearboxes. Estimates from EPA for 2.5L unit are 20/27 mpg in the city/highway driving, while the second petrol engine is estimated with 18/26 mpg in the same conditions. Expectation is that new diesel unit will be characterized with approximately 30 mpg in combined driving.

2016 GMC Canyon: Price and Release Date

Basic version characterizes length of 211.3″, width of 83.9″, height of 70.3″ and wheelbase of 121.9″. Main competitive models are expected to be Frontier produced by Nissan Motor Corporation, then Tacoma from Toyota, as well as Ridgeline model from Honda. Estimated price for new model is around $ 22,000, and new model will go on sale in the third quarter of 2015.
